Middle School Sanitary Project

• To replace the outdoor holes in the ground used as toilets, Second Chance built indoor plumbing including 9 toilets, 4 sinks and 4 mirrors designed to accommodate the size of the 350 children of the Berceni Middle School.
• Budget: 48,700 RON / 19,512 € / $ 14,605
• Mayor's Office: architectural plans, licenses and approvals.

Berceni I Kindergarten Sanitary Project

• For the 40 toddlers of the Berceni I Kindergarten, Second Chance built indoor plumbing including 4 toilets, 4 sinks and 4 mirrors designed to accommodate the size of the children to replace the holes in the ground used as toilets.
• Budget:
• Mayor’s Office: renovation of two rooms, new ceiling.

Playground Project

• Second Chance built a playground in the center of Berceni. The pieces of equipment include a slide, a sand box, a basketball court, two swings, two seesaws and a jungle gym. It is the first fully equipped playground according to European safety regulations in any rural area in Romania and provides a physical outlet for over 500 children.
• Budget: 29 551 RON / 8 862 € / $ 11 839
• Mayor’s Office: donation of the plot of land, workers and construction materials. Food and accommodation for the workers was provided by a local family.

Christmas Party 2006 (for more information, click here)

• At Second Chance’s 4th annual Christmas Party more than 600 people in need enjoyed a typically Romanian Christmas hot meal. All children received gifts and sweets and fruit from Santa and played games organized by the volunteers. On their way out, each family took home two large bags full of groceries to be able to make a proper Christmas dinner at home.
• Budget: 30 865 RON / 9 257 € / $ 12 366
• Mayor’s Office: the use of the room, leave of absence for a number of employees to help out at the party. On the day of the party the team of Bucharest volunteers is joined by a team of Berceni people.
